How to Connect Domain Name to Squarespace

This article is especially for those type of people who already bought the domain name and want to transfer it to Squarespace.

If you want to transfer your domain name from services like GoDaddy or similar, then you won't have any problems with the transferring process.

In this case domain name are connecting automatically in a few steps and clicks, Squarespace tried to make this process as simple as possible.

If you bought a domain on some little-known service, this article is precisely for you. But don't worry, everything that you need to do is to edit DNS Settings, it's pretty easy and could be done literally in a few minutes.

I would try to make this guide as universal as possible, but, of course, the steps will differ depending on the domain service that you use. If you have any questions in the process, I will be happy to help, shoot me a message through the Contact form.

Let’s begin.

Adding a domain name

Open your Squarespace admin panel and go to Settings → Domain → Use a domain I own and type in your domain name. Wait for a few seconds.

Then chose "Connect from a provider". After that, you'll see the panel with all DNS settings that you need to change for connecting your domain address. Example of this panel below.

It could look a little bit difficult, but it's straightforward. Let's go to the next step.

Setting up the DNS Settings

Go to your domain management panel (the website where you've bought the domain).

It happens, that you could not remember where exactly you registered and bought your domain name. In those cases, just open this website: and type in the domain address, after that you'll see all public info about the domain, including the website where you've registered it. Example below, pay your attention on "Registar URL". The next step is to remember login and password :)

When you've logged in into the domain management panel, we need to find something like DNS Settings, Domain Utility or something like that.

Once you've found the DNS settings panel, we could start to edit and add new DNS records.

Once again, look at your Squarespace panel in the look of all the Current data fields.

If you see that "Record not found" we need to add a new record, if there is some data, then we need to edit record.

In this particular case, we need to add four new entries and change the two existing ones. Let's get back to our panel with DNS settings.

We need four records of type A and two records of CNAME type. Find a button to add a new entry, then select the desired type (A or CNAME) and find two fields called Host and Data or IPv4. Copy the corresponding data from the Squarespace panel to the relevant fields. Repeat the process as many times as necessary and always keep the data.

If you've done everything correctly then after 24 hours your domain will be successfully connected, and in the DNS panel you will see this picture:

Everything will shine green, and this is an indication that everything is working correctly.

That's it! I hope you've found it helpful.
